Lineker brands Ranieri's rotation 'utter bollocks' after FA Cup embarrassment

Gary Lineker has branded Claudio Ranieri’s rotation of the Leicester City team “utter bollocks” after their shock FA Cup defeat at Millwall.

The Foxes fell to a 1-0 defeat in south London as a result of Shaun Cummings’ last-minute winner despite the fact their League One hosts played most of the second half with 10 men.

Leicester have now won just one of their last eight games in all competitions and are in danger of relegation from the Premier League a year after being crowned champions.

Millwall FA Cup

With the first leg of the Champions League last-16 tie against Sevilla in mind, Ranieri made 10 changes to his starting lineup for the visit to The Den and left most of his key players on the bench or out of the squad entirely.

Lineker believes there was no need for such drastic rotation of the team, however, given that his former club does not play in Spain until Wednesday.

“Congratulations to Millwall,” Lineker tweeted. “This reserve team stuff though in the 5th round of the FA Cup is utter bollocks. 4 days until Champions League.”

He added: “Great to be in the Champions League but the obsession with a competition that there’s zero chance of winning has hugely damaged [Leicester’s] season.”

To compound their woes, Leicester lost new signing Molla Wague to a dislocated shoulder and are now expected to be without the defender for a lengthy period.

The biggest FA Cup shocks ever

Sevilla sit second in La Liga and are unbeaten in three matches going into the first half of their knockout-round clash with the Foxes at Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.
